Wait, what? Confused about Autodesk’s transition to subscription? Don’t be. Posted: 18 Jul 2016 07:11 PM PDT By now you’ve heard the news. You’ve thought about what it means for your business. Maybe you’ve talked with your reseller, and maybe you’ve switched your perpetual licenses of Autodesk software to subscription. But maybe not. And that’s ok! Today I’m here to tell you that Autodesk’s transition from perpetual licenses of our software to subscription for new purchases doesn’t have to be scary. AND if you already own perpetual licenses and are on maintenance—that doesn’t have to change either. Here’s what’s really going on. Autodesk’s business model change in a nutshell We are evolving our business so that our customers can thrive in theirs, providing them the flexibility to subscribe to software solutions tailored to fit their needs as they approach the future of making things. In order to do so, we are gradually ending the sale perpetual licenses of most products, and offering our software solutions as subscriptions. After the transition is complete, new products will need to be purchased via subscription. Why we’re making these changes The way we design and build is changing rapidly, which also changes the tools we use and the ways companies and individuals buy and access software. By subscribing, you receive a simplified customer experience, lower upfront cost, and the ability to pay for Autodesk products and cloud services for the amount of time that is right for you: monthly, quarterly, annual, and multi-year term lengths (availability may vary depending on region or access type). Your subscription makes it easier to access your software and stay up-to-date. You will be able to subscribe to an individual product or a portfolio of products that can be used by a single-user or shared by multiple users. Providing subscription offerings with flexible packaging and licensing options protects the value of your existing investment in our technologies and delivers a seamless path forward as we discontinue the sales of perpetual licenses. About that perpetual license you already own Your perpetual license is “evergreen.” Existing or new perpetual licenses sold to you during our transition are still valid. You retain your perpetual software license and can continue to use it in accordance with your perpetual license agreement. If the software product is covered by a maintenance plan, you will also continue to receive maintenance benefits, and you will retain the option to renew your maintenance plans for the affected products and receive corresponding benefits for as long as you want. The end-of-sale of perpetual licenses only impacts the ability to purchase new perpetual licenses. What is the Solibri Solution Center (SSC)? The Solibri Solution Center has two main components: First, it is an online portal and repository for BIM Content. This includes Solibri-created resources such as software downloads, extensions (such as the COBie platform and regional resources or rulesets for ADA accessibility checking) and documentation, as well as content created by third party developers. Second, it is an administrative portal for managing licenses, access, and usage. 2. When do you need to access the SSC? In order to install Solibri Model Checker, you will first need to download the installer from the Solution Center (SSC).  Any additional functionality or extensions that you may wish to load on your platform will then need to be downloaded as well.  If you are an administrator of your companies licensing, you will also need to use the SSC to assign and check license status. 3. How do you access the SSC? As an SMC user, there are two ways to login and access resources. You can login at solution.solibri.com through a web browser, You can select the Solution Center Option on the File tab inside SMC.  If you login via the button in SMC, the only items you will see are extensions that have been approved for your access. For additional resources such as documentation or to download the SMC installer, you will need to access the SSC via the website. 4. How do you use and navigate the SSC? As a user, the main functions of the SSC will be to request download permissions for any extensions you would like and then download and install those extensions once an administrator grants permission. To see the full list of resources available to request, you will need to login to the SSC via your web browser. In the SSC, select the "Product" drop-down and choose if you would like to look at Extensions, the Product (SMC installers), or Documentation.  Documentation is available for download immediately.  Extensions and Product installers are listed with a "Wish" button to request permission to download from an administrator. Once the "Wish" button is selected, the button will change to "“Remove Wish."  The request has been made, and the administrator can now grant the wish via the Administrator Panel. Once the Administrator grants the wish via the Administrative panel, the next time you log in to the SSC you will see the download/extension listed as "Available."  This indicates the extension is ready for you to download from within SMC. Open SMC, select the "Solution Center" button and the requested extension is listed as available for install. John Lipp posted: "Solibri Model Checker (SMC) is able to generate a BIM Collaboration Format (BCF) file based on issues found in a model after running a rules-based check.  The BCF file includes the 3D locations of issues along with textual information.  In this article, y" Respond to this post by replying above this line New post on http://solibri.wordpress.com SMC Workflow with BCF by John Lipp Solibri Model Checker (SMC) is able to generate a BIM Collaboration Format (BCF) file based on issues found in a model after running a rules-based check.  The BCF file includes the 3D locations of issues along with textual information.  In this article, you'll learn the workflow of communicating issues back and forth via BCF between an SMC user and a user working in ArchiCAD to correct issues found in a model. Below, is an issue that was found using an SMC out-of-the-box validation rule "Clearance in front of windows," where the ceiling is visible through the exterior window. The SMC user wishes to communicate this issue to the designer (using ArchiCAD) to be corrected. A window that is too tall, making the ceiling visible An issue is created by right-clicking the result in the Results view, and selecting "Add Slide." In addition to setting the description, a comment "This window is too tall." is added in the comments box.  This is a BCF comment, which also saves the date the comment was made and username of the user that created it. You can also set the "BCF Status" to one of the 4 options (Error, Warning, Info, or Unknown) in the Coordination tab Creating an Issue Details slide with a BCF comment After creating several slides of other issues, a new presentation is created from the checking results in the Communication layout.  Once the presentation is created, a report of the results is generated. In this Create Report dialog, the BCF Report v1.0 option is selected and a report is saved, which can be sent to the user of ArchiCAD. Exporting a BCF report This BCF file can be opened in a standalone BCF viewer, or in a BCF Manager extension installed on the building authoring tool. KUBUS BV provides BCF managers for free for many applications including ArchiCAD.  For more information on the BCF Manager and to download, please click the link: http://www.bimcollab.com/en/BCF-Manager/BCF-Manager After the ArchiCAD user installs the KUBUS BCF Manager over ArchiCAD, the BCF file that the user of SMC sent can be opened within ArchiCAD. Opening the BCF Manager in ArchiCAD 19 Once opened, the ArchiCAD user sees a listing of issues that were found in Solibri. Below is the issue with the clearance in front of the windows. The issue includes the comment along with the author of the comment and the date the comment was created. Viewing issues in the BCF Manager By double clicking on the listed issue in the BCF Manager, the components involved are isolated in a 3D view within ArchiCAD and the camera of the 3D view is moved to the same location as that of the issue in SMC.  From here, the ArchiCAD user can make the correction. Double-clicking an issue zooms to and isolates components with issues within ArchiCAD The issue is fixed by swapping out the window with another type of window that is shorter. Issue resolved by replacing the window with a shorter one The ArchiCAD user adds a new viewpoint along with a comment within the KUBUS BCF Manager, that they have corrected the issue.  The status of the issue changes from "Active" to "Resolved" by clicking the Resolve button. Adding a comment/viewpoint about the fix and setting the status to "Resolved" The SMC user receives the BCF file that the ArchiCAD user updated along with the new model with the issue corrected. The issue presentation in SMC can be updated with the ArchiCAD user's comments and viewpoint of the issue after it was corrected by right-clicking the presentation and selecting Update Presentation from BCF. Updating the presentation from a BCF The issue slide in the presentation has an additional slide showing the correction, and the comment that the ArchiCAD user created is listed.  The status is also changed to Resolved. Comment, viewpoint, and status updated in SMC from BCF from ArchiCAD After updating the model to the new corrected version and re-running the check there is no longer a result in the Results view for the clearance in front of windows issue.  To update the existing presentation, right-click the presentation and select Update Presentation from Results. Update Presentation from Checking Results of new model In order to add new issues to the presentation, but allow existing issues that were resolved to remain, mark "Add new issues from the results," but leave "Remove issues that don't exist in results" unmarked. Add new issues, and leave issues that no longer exist. The presentation is updated and the clearance in front of windows issue remains in the presentation. Notice that the results link icon  no longer exists on the slide because there is no longer a result that exists, as the issue was fixed.  Since the issue no longer exists, the SMC user can set the status to closed and a BCF comment is generated automatically that saves the date and user that closed the issue with the comment "Status changed from Resolved to Closed".
