2016 Fall BIMForum Theme:
"What is the New Standard for Professional Coordination?"Examining the changing standard of care for designers, builders, and owners
SESSION HIGHLIGHT:
Systematic Model Review for Effective Coordination
Speaker:
Brendan Nichols
Senior Virtual Building Engineer
The Beck Group

Even though designers may never admit it, building information models can differ from construction documents. Documents represent design intent and the models used to create them are rarely suitable for construction coordination. Coordination issues found in models may not exist in drawings, and even worse, coordination issues that appear in drawings may not appear in your standard 3D coordination workflows. Even at The Beck Group, a construction company that grossed a billion dollar revenue in 2015, our expert coordinators struggled with these issues. Our solution was to review all models for accuracy and consistency with contract documents before coordination.
This session will present The Beck Group’s standard model review for coordination workflow. Real projects will be presented where this workflow was used to prevent some common pitfalls of coordination. This workflow is fast, detailed, and targets the most critical areas for construction coordination. Performing these tests and sharing these standardized documents with all parties has, in the past, resulted in dramatic model quality improvements from one design milestone to the next. As well, it has helped our coordinators know what to trust and what to avoid in each design model.
About the Speaker:Brendan Nichols is a senior virtual building engineer at The Beck Group. Beck’s integrated design-build model enables him to tackle difficult challenges across both architecture and construction. At Beck, Nichols performs laser scanning and Building Information Modeling (BIM), and he supports these processes and workflows throughout the company. After experiencing Beck’s cross-disciplinary challenges, Nichols has written multiple internal Revit software plug-ins to eliminate difficult or repetitive day-to-day tasks. He also enjoys writing scripts and Dynamo definitions to solve some of Beck’s unique problems.

SESSION HIGHLIGHT:
Finding the Formula for the Perfect Coordination Process
Speaker:
Jim Fitzgerald
Plumbing Coordination ManagerJC Cannistraro, LLC
Since the widespread adoption of BIM across the AEC industry, the growth in demand for prefabricated assemblies and modular building systems has been on the rise. In Boston, where new construction and development is at an all-time high, project teams that are being formed early and embracing prefab and other lean methods are delivering floors faster and rethinking how work is done both on and off the jobsite. Using real project case study examples (both good and bad) Cannistraro, Boston’s largest mechanical construction firm, will outline the steps and/or rules for achieving an ideal project that maximizes collaboration, prefabrication and other benefits of lean construction.

HTC Vive Integration in Revizto! This is real!

HTC Vive Integration in Revizto! This is real!

This is real – Revizto now supports HTC Vive!

We continue to open up new possibilities of Virtual Reality experience for our users. And today, we are extremely excited to announce that we have released a special update of Revizto 4.1 with HTC Vive integration! It's immediately available for download on our website!

That means, that along with Oculus support (and we are proud to mention that Revizto was the first app for AEC industry to provide VR capability last year) our users receive yet another incredible possibility to explore and show off architectural projects in a full immersive environment using Revizto with HTC Vive.

It's important to note that we only implemented the first stage of Vive integration into Revizto, and HTC Vive native controllers are not supported in this version yet. This is on the way. Meantime, you can easily navigate using Xbox controller or any other gamepad.

So plug your favorite headset – HTC Vive or Oculus –
and enjoy your project with Revizto in VR!

Keep sharing your Revizto experience with us! We'd love to hear any comments you have about Revizto. Please leave your feedback on Revizto Forum or write us at service@revizto.com.
